Revamping the National Theatre of Iasi Website:
Enhancing User Experience and Navigation
When I was asked to redesign the website for Iași National Theatre—the oldest theatre in Romania—I knew it had to be more than just a facelift. This building holds over 170 years of stories, applause, and culture. The challenge was simple but tricky: how do you bring such a historic institution into the digital age without losing its soul?
Stepping Into the Story
I started by looking at the theatre not as “a client,” but as a living place. Anyone who has been inside knows the feeling: the red velvet curtains, the ornate ceiling, the quiet anticipation before the lights dim. I wanted the website to carry a little bit of that magic—while still being practical for people who just want to check what’s on or book a seat quickly.
Designing With Care
The focus became clarity and warmth. I built a structure that makes it easy to find upcoming shows, buy tickets, or explore the theatre’s history without getting lost. The visuals borrowed from the theatre itself: elegant typefaces, strong imagery, and a design that feels as welcoming as the building.
It wasn’t about showing off digital tricks—it was about creating a stage where the theatre’s own beauty could shine.
The New Experience
Now, the website feels less like a static archive and more like a living part of the theatre. People can glide through performances, learn about the heritage, and book their seats without stress.
For me, the most rewarding part was seeing how a cultural symbol could translate so naturally online. It’s not just a website—it’s an open invitation, a way for more people to connect with the theatre’s story, both old and new.
In the end, we didn’t just “redesign a site.” We gave Romania’s oldest theatre a new stage—one that’s always open, always accessible, and ready for its next audience.
